My Homework Assignment

Project 929 Stage 1

This is My 2001 Honda CBR929RR. This project has been on going for quite a long time due the long hours I had been putting in with my full time profession. Now that I have a little more time to work on her and bigger faculties I should be able to finish her up in no time.

Once the bike was delivered the first thing I did was made sure she was operational. Once I was ok with the overall operation, I stripped all the effected body works off to better access the damages. The most noticeable problems were a dent in the fuel tank; a bent left handle bar and some cracked plastic from the shipper (Thanks Overnite).

With only 1904 miles on the bike I wasn't too worried about any major problems. We ran it for about three days just to see if anything was out of place. With everything checking out we chopped the stock can off and replaced it with a Two Brothers Racing C-5 bolt (+ 4.5 hp)on and dropped in some NGK iridium spark plugs. I sent the damaged left plastic off to Motorcycle Salvage Co. to be welded. I sanded the welds and put the pieces back together and stripped the decals just to see how it would look with only a minor amount of work.

With all major components in excellent working condition I started tinkering with the minor bit. When all the plastic was on I noticed the upper pulled to one side so I stripped it back down to investigate and noticed the mirror bracket was bent so I ordered one off E-bay (got it for peanuts). Then I rewire the turn signal/light controls because the high beams would not come on. The master cylinder bracket was bent up real back so I replaced that was well. To spice the controls up a little I threw on some carbon fiber levers and buttoned it all back up for some joy riding.

One rainy day I stripped it back down to nothingness and worked on repairing the plastic. I  filled the minor scrapes and dings then sgrabbed a few new peices of plastic. Once I was satisfied with the repairs I sanded all the peices and slapped some primer and again I buttoned her back up for some more joyriding.

Now that I'm into the home stretch, I've picked out my paint (RC-51 Silver or Maybe Red....OK maybe I haven't picked a paint) and its just a matter and taking her apart one last time and touching up the primmer to make sure the paint will take. I also have my R and D team constructing a ram air system so I might make some cuts to the upper before we go to the paint shop. On the bike is my star auto mechanic Charlie Harris he's clearly the brains of the organization.

As soon as the DMV inspects her, we're off and running (any day now).

With a big thumb’s up from the DMV we’re good to go. Got the bike inspected and tags. The only problem now is that I was currently in the process of moving to Florida.

In Florida my shop and been down sized to the back patio. The next modification I made was to the air box and disconnected the flapper in the air box  to allow constant air into the engine. Next I removed the pair valve, which will not serve a major part until I install and Power Commander III usb and then it will insure my custom it calculated correctly. What is does do is reduce the popping on deceleration.(sorry not pix)

On a rain weekend I broke out the aircraft stripper and began the process of polishing the lips on the wheels.
